Turran Steven Shepherd, son of the late Larry Jenkins and Linda Moore was born on December 15, 1977 in Wilmington, DE. He departed this life on Friday, July 21, 2017 at his home. Turran was joined in matrimony to Lewgelien Phillips for 8 years. He received his early education in the public schools of Delaware and was a graduate of Glasgow High school. Turran also attended Capitol College to further his skills in computers and later worked various jobs including work at W.L. Gore and Comcast Cable.
Turran was also a skilled DJ affectionately known as DJ Fat Cat, he was kind, giving and very friendly. He was devoted to his family and will be remembered for his love for taking pictures and recording videos at all family functions. He was also technically skilled repairing computers and setting up electronic devices for both family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Step-father Collin Moore; step-mother Sharon Jenkins; a brother Ira Shepherd; devoted sister -in law Keisha Shepherd; 2 sisters, Shantell Jenkins- Conaway (Quincy) and Constance (Connie) Moore, another brother, Larry Jenkins, Jr; numerous aunts and uncles with a favorite pair being Donald and Marcella Johnson. Turran with no children of his own on the other hand he was blessed with 6 nephews; Ira Shepherd Jr., Kyan Matthews, Eli Warren, Malakhi Warren, Quincy Conaway and Shayron Jenkins. He was also fortunate to have 3 nieces Nyla Shepherd, Cierrah Warren and Chaneice Jenkins. Turran also had a beloved stepdaughter Layonna Phillips. Lastly Turran enjoyed a special bond with Rasheed Roane whom he loved, mentored and treated as his own child. Turran also has a special friend, Victor Bryant who was like a brother to him.
Turran also was fortunate to have a special relationship with Democratic Senator Chris Coons. The Senator met Turran when he mentored disadvantaged youths through the “I have a Dream Foundation”, nearly 30 years ago. What began initially in a mentor and mentee setting, would blossom into a long -standing relationship where each loved and respected the another. Senator Coons assisted Turran when he faced obstacles regarding his health insurance and even in securing a residence in tougher times. Turran in turn, would help the Senator by keeping his ear to the street and offering opinions on many the issues and struggles facing ordinary Delawareans. Theirs was a true friendship in every aspect of the word.
Deep in our hearts lies a picture of our loved one laid to rest. In memory’s frame, we shall keep him because he was one of life’s best. His hands now are resting, his tasks on this earth are done. God bless his loving memory as we remember him say, “well done.”
