Betty A. Todd. A beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great- grandmother and great-great- grandmother peacefully departed this world on September 16, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born February 15, 1931 in Elkton, Maryland to the late Alexander G. Brinkley and Ethel M. Lloyd.
Betty received her early education at the 120C school in Middletown, Delaware and later earned her high school diploma from Delaware State.
At an early age Betty became a lifelong supportive member of Dale United Methodist Church in Middletown, Delaware. She enjoyed going to church and being in fellowship with the congregation.
On August 19, 1953 Betty married the love of her life, Norman T. Todd, Sr. Their love and devotion to each other lasted 59 years. Very rarely would you see one without the other.
In 1966 Betty became co-owner and founder of Todd’s Janitorial Services where she served many companies throughout Delaware City, Middletown, and Newark, Delaware.
Betty was also a dedicated employee at Campbell Soup, Leeds Travelware, Broadmeadow Private School and the State of Delaware.
Betty enjoyed being around family and friends, traveling and watching her favorite sports teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and the 76ers. She also enjoyed watching Let’s Make A Deal. The Price Is Right, HGTV, the cooking channels and Family Feud just to name a few.
Betty is survived by her cherished family which includes her loving, caring and devoted care giver children, Charmaine Todd-Coates, Norma Sadler (Jay), Carmen Frazier (Charles), Unitas S. Todd (Ruth), Norman H. Todd, Jr.(Kim), devoted daughter-in-law Ardie Todd and sister Martina Ortiz. She is also survived by fourteen beloved grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman H. Todd, Sr., two sons, Tremaine and Devin M. Todd, granddaughter Latoya Todd, great-granddaughter Avianna Otero, two great-grands sons Jeremiah Brittingham, Jr. and Travon Brittingham, her mother Ethel M. Lloyd, devoted stepfather John F. Lloyd, father Alexander G. Brinkley, brothers Frank A. Scott. Howard Lively, Thomas, James and William Brinkley.
Betty was a very sweet, caring and devoted mother to her family and to all that were fortunate enough to be part of her life. She will be dearly missed by all of us all but never forgotten for her spirit will always be in our hearts.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday September 28, 2023 at 11 am, viewing 9-11 am. The service will be held at Townsend Baptist Church 4519 Dupont Parkway, Townsend, DE 19734. Interment, Delaware Veterans Cemetery.
