Carl Emory Wanamaker, Sr. was born in Townsend, Delaware on April 02, 1932. Carl was the eleventh of twelve children. He was the youngest son of Mable and Edward Wanamaker. Carl departed this life on April 26, 2019.
Carl received his education in Townsend School System. In September of 1952 Carl became a member of the United States Army. He earned many Medals of Honor: National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service with Bronze, Combat Infantry Man Badge, two Good Conduct Medals( September 22, 1952 and September 21, 1954 and United Nations Service Medal.
Carl married Sarah Hannah Simmons on May 4, 1957. To this union two children were born, Sandra C. and Carl, Jr.
Carl was employed by the Dupont Company for 40 plus years, retiring in 1981.
Carl loved his John Deere Tractors and used them well to keep his lawn cut perfect. His treasures, the Antique Cars.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Mable and Edward Wanamaker, 3 brothers; Hartford, James and William, 6 sisters; Mary, Lillian, Anna, Buelah, Rosilee, and Genieve.
Carl will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years. Sarah Hannah, daughter Sandra, son, Carl, Jr. (Shelly); grandson, Kyle e.(Lakia), great grandchildren, Ava and Asher. Sister, Elva Wanamaker and Betty Butcher; sister-in-laws, Ada, Alpaine , Gloria, Margaret,Erenstine,Teresa and Clythia, and brother-in-law, Edward.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday May 10, 2019 at 11am. Viewing 9:30-11am, Townsend Freewill Baptist Church, 4519 Dupont Parkway, Townsend, Delaware 19734. Interment, Delaware Veterans Cemetery.
