Carolyn Moody was born on September 8, 1946 in Rincon, GA to Herbert and Esther Mainor. She passed on May 2, 2026 in Newark, DE.
Carolyn received her early childhood education at George Washington Carver Elementary School. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1964. After graduating high school, Carolyn went on to graduate from Peninsula Business School. Upon completion of her education she held several jobs in hospitality services as a Guest Supervisor from Sheraton Suites Hotel.
On August 8, 1970 at Ezion Mt. Carmel UMC in Wilmington, DE Carolyn married the love of her life Rev. Purnell A. Moody whom he affectionately referred to her as his "Georgia Peach." Their union produced 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Carolyn was a faithful member of Mother African Union Church. She served as a Deacon as as service on several committees throughout her membership. She faithfully served her church family and community with humility, compassion and grace. Carolyn's hobbies included traveling, collecting African artifacts and staying current with events that affected our community. Her favorite past times were watching classical biblical movies, discussing current events and anything involving family and friends.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Purnell A. Moody, her parents, Herbert and Essie Mainor, her son Curtis "Ashleigh" Mainor-Winston, her brother Russell Mainor, her brother-in-laws Herman T. Moody, Sr. and George B. Moody, Sr., and sister-in-laws Constance Saunders Young and Margaret "Peggy" Moody.
Carolyn is survived by her children; Heshimu Yero Abdullah Moody, Jalila Amira Moody, Rashied Ali Moody, Chwani Amira Gourzong and her son-in-law Garfield Gourzong. Grandchildren; Malika Moody, Brakeem Briddell, Najiayh Moody, Damani Gourzong, Zari Gourzong, Jada Gourzong, Khalil Moody and Khiry Moody. Great grandchildren; Zia Gourzong, Takhari Mills and Asaies Briddell. Sister-in-law, Geraldine Moody.
