Erma V. Peterson, was born December 23, 1933 to the late Thomas James Macintosh Sr. and the late Erma D. Macintosh-Cuff. She is preceded with her siblings, the late Leila Baynard, Constance Murray, Barbara Coleman, Tommy, Jimmy, and Lonnie Macintosh, all deceased in the City of Wilmington, Delaware.
Erma went very peacefully, slipping away and transitioning to her new spiritual home on Palms Sunday, April 5, 2020 at 2:50 am, at her daughter's home, her heavenly Father Jesus Christ leading her home.
Erma graduated into baptism before her death on April 12, 2020, with the Rev. Dr. Lawrence M. Livingston and Pastor Gloria E. Ross leading and counseling her before she entered the Kingdom of Almighty God's home.
Erma was married to the late Lawrence E. Peterson Sr. and from that marriage they born three children Lawrence E. Peterson Jr., Linda V. Peterson-Rhodes, and Erma C. Peterson.
Mother Erma, a.k.a Cissy attended the Wilmington public schools, and was the Ambassador and President, of the Parkview Apartments, where she was a resident for over 20 years. As a child in Mother African Methodist church she served on the Stewardess Board as a Junior Usher, and sang in the Junior Choir.
Erma was an advocate and a great!! body to the communities all her life. Everyone!!! loved Cissy. She, and her sister Constance, were professional models, teaching young women how to conduct themselves as young ladies, and was a Mascot Sr. for the Soulselettes Drill Team helping them to prepare the team's uniforms for the Wilmington American Legion Elks parade in Newark N.J. and Atlantic City in 1973. The team came in first place in both places winning trophies with her two daughters and nieces and nephews in her family's participation in the drill team. She and her sister Constance were good coaches and loved doing what they did.
Erma was a devoted sister and had a very special relationship with all her siblings, mother, father, aunts and uncles. Her favorite uncle was Clarence Roache, and aunt Genda Wilson. She loved her devoted brother in-law Nelson E. Ross. Three devoted nurses from Bayada Nurse's. Ginny, I-You and Emaculant. Devoted caregivers Linda, Andre, Shelley Thomas Holmes and Shelley Waters. Thank you caregivers and Bayada nurses for all your services and (TLC) for our mother. God bless you all, You all were Great!!!
In Erma's earlier years, she was employed by DuPont, and worked on making ammunition artillery weapons for the U.S. Arm Forces in Maryland in 1968 with her sisters Connie, Gloria and Leila, a.k.a Wincey.
Erma too was a great Caregiver to so many and did other domestic work during her life. She and her mother raised 11 children at their home; Pete, Linda Carmen Bruce, Shelly, Sheila, Norman, Norma, Karen, Timothy, and Andrew. She adopted Helen Duffie for years. In those years granny and her struggled to care for all the children in the 1950's however they succeeded .
She enjoyed dancing barbarcuing and parties for family and friends events. She had no particulars of who she loved, her children nieces and nephews sisters and brothers and friends.
Her favorite songs: Aretha Franklin Amazing Grace. (What A Difference A Day Makes) Oh!!! and Della Reese. Malhaila Jackson. And the voice of her mother Erma D. Macintosh Cuff, How Great Thou Art.
Erma, loved sewing preparing gowns for the Big Wilmington's Black and White Ball and other special occasions. She loved making dolls, cooking, reading, decorating and preparing big meals for family and friends all though every holiday. Her deceased favorite pets Spot, princess and Cat. Who she loved as her children.
She was a great!!! inspiration to all, and everything. Our mother groomed me and my sister and brothers with good values and morals to grow into men and women.
Her saying was never let your nose spike your face, live life to the fullest and give respect to where it is do, treat people the way you want to be treated. Erma had no enemies, if she did they still loved her because she carried herself like a Queen with good intentions for her family. God Almighty loved her best.
Her life failed due to three strokes but she kept that great sense of humor with a big smile for whoever would walk into Carmen's home. When she would see aunt Gloria aunt Ann aunt Barbara aunt Connie she knew they were coming to get her going with a lot of laughter. She was in trouble!!! Wow!! did they all cut up with her. They loved their sister and she loved them.
She loved her spiritual advisors pastor Rev. Livingston and Gloria E. Ross. Thank you both for preparing and inspiring her to the Kingdom of Heaven. You both were great!!!
Erma leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Pete Linda, and Carmen, a Stepson Lawrence, and Joey Reynolds, of Boston Massachusetts, two sisters Gloria E. Ross, and Ann Collins, her devoted brother in-law Nelson E. Ross, and Andre Jordon, son in-law; 18 grandchildren, 6 greatgrand children, and three great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, a devoted friend James Brewer, and devoted family members Joyce, Summer and Carolyn McQueen, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Territa Sorden of New Jersey.
Thank you Almighty God we couldn't ask for a better mother. Mommy you were the best mother a son and two daughters could ask for.
There's no one like you in our eyes. You are our Queen forevermore. We Love you, however God Loves you too much and best.
Funeral service will be helded at the Mother African Methodist Church 821 N. Franklin St. Viewing
10:00 to 11:45 am on Monday April 20, 2020. The funeral will be only for the immediate family due to the Corona Covit-19. We need to make sure everyone is safe during this time.
In the months to come there will be a Memorial Service for family and friends. We apologize for the inconviences of your presence not being able to attend Mother's furneral. This is for everyone's safety. We the family thank family and friends for your cooperation in dealing with this most sad event.
If you attend the viewing the family request everyone to wear a mask and gloves. During the viewing no one is to console physically with the family. Sorry this is very sad however, we all must be cautious and careful for our own safety. Thank you all.
