Mother Frances Margaret Rodgers-Shaw departed life on October 24, 2020. She was born on July 27, 1938 to Bernice Louise Jefferson-Rodgers and William Rodgers in an apartment of a tenement building. Frances was the second (2 nd ) child born of seven girls.
Frances attended PS. 159 Elementary in New York City. Later while growing up she moved to Roanoke City, Virginia with her family and attended the Loudon Public School. Ms. Queen Williams was a school principal who had a major impact in her life. She also attended Harrison J.H.S and Lucy Addison H.S. in Roanoke, Virginia. She moved back to New York City along with her family and attended Julia Richmond H.S. in New York City.
In 1958, Frances Married Roy Thomas Revill from Augusta, Georgia. From this union, they had four children, two sons and two daughters – Roy. Jr, Alethea, Roger, and Bernice Revill. Later, she married John Cooper. From their union, they had the late Corzette (Crissy) Cooper. Later, she married the late James Shaw in 2001 and moved to Dover, Delaware where they retired.
She started playing piano by ear at the age of 8. She was a highly respected talented musician. She has extended and shared her musical and vocal talent with many various churches and funeral homes throughout the states of Delaware, New York City, and Roanoke, Virginia.
In her late teens she moved back to New York with her family and attended her father’s church in Manhattan. Later in life as an adult, she moved back to Roanoke, Virginia in 1979 and joined Harvest Tabernacle COGIC. She moved to Wilmington, Delaware in 1982 and in 2011, she joined New Bethel Church of God In Christ in Washington, DC. In the latter years, she often visited Grace and Mercy Temple of Praise in Camden, De.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters, Helen Johnson, Carrie Moore, Patricia Rodgers, Lillian Rodgers, daughter, Corzette and a granddaughter. She leaves to mourn two younger sisters, four children, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, step-daughter, Audrey Stroman, god-son, Tracey Payne, god-daughters, Linda Dowtin Norwood, Sharena Soutar Frith, and Michelle Ritter-Jones.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday November 9, 2020 at 10 am. Viewing, 8:30-10 at Grace & Mercy Temple of Praise Church, 11 West Camden, Wyoming Avenue- Wyoming, DE. There will only be one viewing. Interment, Delaware Veterans Cemetery.
State mandates all who attend must wear masks.
