Brother Isaiah Watters, son of the late Paul and Edie Watters. Brother Isaiah was born in Hockessin, Delaware, September 13, 1931. He was one of two children. Brother Watters departed this life for his heavenly rest on November 15, 2023at his residence with his loving wife of 52 years at his bedside.
Brother Watters early years were spent in Hockessin, DE where he also attended his school years. As an adult he became a faithful member of Chippy Chapel Church. He was known as a happy and friendly person to all he met.
Brother Watters worked hard in his early years and went on to work for the DuPont Company for 42 years until he retired 1991.
Brother Watters great passion besides the church was riding his motorcycle when he was young and weight lifting up until about four years ago, some of the young men at the gym were amazed that he could lift 200 pounds at his age. He went to the gym everyday except Sunday. In golf he was one of the best golfers at the Delaware Country Club. He and his buddy Bill Beard traveled in and out of state for golfing. After joining Bethany Church, Brother Watters was a faithful member. He supported the church in its endeavors. He supported any and all the church’s financial obligations and was the first to give funds for any needed church project.
Under Reverend Dr. Dorothy Wilmore he served as Trustee, member of the Senior Choir and the Brotherhood Association. He once told Rev. Dr. Wilmore that he golfed on Sundays but any other time she would see him. However, the following Sunday he told Rev. Wilmore the previous Sunday he played the worst game he ever played and told her if God was willing that he would be to church every Sunday, and he was.
Brother Watters had a wonderful baritone voice that was really an asset to the Senior Choir. Sometimes when the spirit hit him, he would break out in a solo of Precious Lord Take My Hand.
Brother Watters was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Edie Watters, one sister, Beatrice Woodard, and one brother-in-law, Darius Brown, Sr. (Allene)
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joan; one daughter, Illonia; two sons, Isaiah, Jr. (Nicole), Ivan Watters; 8 grandchildren; Ervin Watters, Isaiah Watters lll, Isaiah Watters IV, Nisaiah Watters, Zieisha Watters, Pamela Stansbury, Eric Blackiston and a host of other grands, and great great children. One sister-in-law Catherine Brown, brother-in-law, Rodney (Regina), Ernest Brown (Edith). He always said that Ernest was a brother to him that he never had. Gerald (Freda), Dennis (Valerie) and his childhood friend, Sonny Knox.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday December 2, 2023 at 11 am, viewing 9-10:45 am, Bethany UAME Church, 419 Williams Street New Castle, DE 19702
