Judith Leigh Winward know as, “Judi,” was born on Friday, January 9, 1948, to the late Robert and Kathryn Winward in Wilmington, DE. She grew up in the community of Southbridge. She was extremely proud of her “Southbridge” roots. Judi often said , “ do n’t look at my skin tone and get it twiste d, I’m from Southbridge! “ In her early adulthood, she moved to Detroit, Michigan where she was a print model for Uniroyal Tires. A few years later sh e relocat ed to Wilmington and focused solely on raising her children. When she rejoined the work force, she held lengthy positions at The Wilmington News Journal and Amazon. She spent the last two decades of her life being a caregiver(mother) to her great nephew. Her unique sense of swag, fashion, style, and grace impressed family members, friends, and neighbors. To have known Judi is to have loved Judi and there will NEVER be another!!
Judi, at age 73 died suddenly but peacefully at her home on December17, 2021. She is now reunited in spirit with her first born, Carmen, Stepdaughter Sherell, Sisters: Cynthia and Marsha, Brothers: Wesley, Donald, and Darryl.
Judi’s loving memory will remain with her surviving Children: Scharie , Damaine, and Jabbar. Stepchildren: Artise, Dwayne, Tyrone, and Vanessa. Goddaughter Jaylynn, Grandchildren: Kyron, Nyla, Mariah, Alan, Damian, and Dayson. Sisters: Miriam and Beverly Brothers: Robert and Brian. Special friends: Ophelia, Marshelia, Debbie, Maryanne and a host of other friends, nieces, and nephews. Great nephew, Dayshawn Bunting.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday January 1, 2022. The viewing will be held 11-1 pm with service immediately following at 1pm from Mother UAME Church, 701 E. 5th Street, Wilm., DE 19801. All attendees must wear mask
