Patricia Gwendolyn Crampton passed away in the hospital surrounded by family, at the age of 72.
Treasie, or Pat as she was lovingly called by family and friends, was born to the late Florence Mae Boyer Hawkins and James Walter “Bus” Hawkins in December, 1950.
She grew up in Kennett Square, PA and graduated from Kennett High School, 1968 and went on to graduate from Goldey Beacom College in 1970.
Patricia worked in the medical field for over 40 years. She started as a medical secretary in the Wilmington Hospital, later running the office for an Oncology doctor at Christiana Care, and finally retiring as an Administrative Assistant at AI Dupont hospital working in the Oncology/Hematology Department.
Patricia answered the call to the ministry of Evangelism at her home church, New Garden Memorial UAME Church in 2001, going on to graduate from Boulden Seminary and The Biblical Institute in 2003.
She served the Conference on the Spiritual Life Committee, Praise and Worship for Evangelist, Chairperson of the Memorial Committee, Credentials Committee, and Chaplain of the Ministerial Association.
Evangelist Crampton was currently assigned to St. Paul UAME Church, Smyrna, DE, serving as a member of the ministerial team. During and after Covid she was dedicated to attending prayer meetings and services via zoom.
Patricia loved spending time with family, devoting time to being a girl scout leader to her daughters from grade school through high school, and creating memories with her grandsons and just about every child that came across her path who also affectionately called her Nana. Patricia also enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, traveling and listening to music. Her favorite song was “Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand”.
Patricia was known for her caring nature, infectious smile and warm compassionate spirit.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. Crampton, and son, Jonathan L. Crampton.
She is survived by daughters, Crystal L. Crampton, Dionne M. Sterling (Keith); grandchildren, Julian Willingham (Jenae), Stephan Willingham; Brother, Curtis Hawkins (Tonda); Brother-in-law, Harlan Hunter, Sr. (Rev. Sondra); Sisters-in-Law Caroline Carroll, Carol Bladen, Julia Coleman; Uncle, Alton Boyer (Betty); Cousin, Carolann Maxwell(Buddy) and a host of loving Nieces, Nephews, cousins, and friends.
Those who touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever. Greatly loved, deeply missed. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
The celebration of her life will be held at St. Paul U.A.M.E Church, 3114 N. Market Street Wilmington, Delaware, 19802 on Thursday July 27, 2023 at 11am.
