Samuel Lee Hicklin, affectionately known as “Scott”, of Wilmington Delaware was born September 4, 1954 and went home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2021 in the presence of his loving caregivers Pamela and Brinton Davis, Sr.
Scott was the son of the deceased Patsy Ruth and Thomas Hicklin; Sr. Scott had many siblings as follows: Cora Hicklin; Thomasene D. Hicklin; Regina D. Hicklin; LaKeith E. Hicklin; Thomas Hicklin, Jr; Angela D. Robinson; April C. Hicklin; Phillip D. Hicklin; Daniel T. Hicklin; James Hicklin; and Patrice R. Hicklin. Those preceding him in death are: Nancy Hicklin; Jimmy Hicklin and a daughter Monica Berry. He also leaves to morn, his children: Cassandra Savage, SamyraThomas; Karkhia Berry and his son Samuel Berry.
Scott was educated in the Wilmington school system and was drafted into the United States Army in September, 1973, where he received, a National Defense Service Medal; Marksman M-16 Sharpshooter Grenade commendations, and was honorably discharged on November 1975.
After his discharge, Scott met and married Dorothy E. Dixon, who preceded him in death.During his lifetime, Scott worked at many different jobs in the fields of carpentry; auto mechanics; and general labor. He enjoyed watching TV and being around other people.
Life was not always easy for Scott who experienced many losses in his life and the memories of his war experiences were hard. At times he resorted to using alcohol to quite the voices and noises that played back over and over in his mine.
But thanks be unto God, Scott cried out to the Lord one day for help and with the assistance of the VA, in the person of Donna Hernandez, and his Medical Foster Home, he was given a home that offered love, support, comfort, and spiritual encouragement.
We also want to thank Compassionate Care Hospice and all the staff that helped Scott transition to his new home with Christ.He leaves to cherish his memory; remaining siblings, nieces, nephews’ other family members and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Tuesday October 5, 2021 at Mother UAME Church, 701 E. 5th Street, Wilm.,DE 19801. The viewing will be 10-10:45 am, and service at 11 am. Interment, Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear, DE. Masks are required for all in attendance.
