For over 40 years, St. Stephanie served in various capacities in the Harrisburg Tabernacle. She was appointed a Choir Mistress by Elder Robert W. Madison and later Mother Sarah by Elder Benjamin J. Farrar. She was faithful and committed to the work her hands found to do. Her love for God, her Church, her family and her fellowman was evident in how she lived her life. She was always grateful when she was able to set her foot in the Tabernacle for any service. During the Holy Convocation everyone knew we would hear some of the old songs from Chicago that only she knew.
St. Stephanie will be remembered for many things, most notably, her knack for collecting money. Whether on a local or national level, if there was money to be collected, St. Stephanie was the woman for the job! Over the years she collected thousands of dollars towards vacations for our leaders (Stars on the Wall), Union Choir Mistress dues, Passover Savings and donations for the kitchen help during the Passovers, to name a few. No one was spared when it was time to collect, especially if you made a promise. At some time during a gathering you were bound to hear, “You have some money for me?”
In November 2017, the desire to be closer to her family, especially her grandchildren, drove St. Stephanie to move to Wilmington, DE. The following months were spent enjoying the company and love of the saints and her family. She adored her grandchildren, who always put a smile on her face, and her devoted sister, Yvette, whom she fondly called “Betsy” who was always there when she needed her.
On the morning of Sunday, April 8, 2018, the soul of St. Stephanie A. Baskins was called home to rest.
